John Baxter

John Baxter (1844-1927) was an Ag labourer and married Zilpah Newell (1848-1909). They moved to Higham Ferrers.

6 children - Walter (b:1871), Ruth (b:1873), Arthur (b:1876), John (b:1878), Rose (b:1884) & Walter [1892-1917].

Thomas Baxter (2)

Thomas Baxter (b:1846) was an Ag Labourer and married Zubah Newell (b:1856). They moved to Stanwick.

William Baxter [1849-07.Oct.1925] was an Ag Labourer and married Lucy Dayton Bailey [Apr.1856-28.Mar.1940]. By 1919 they were residing in Caldecott.

13 children - Sarah Emma (b:1876), John William, Fred ,Charles, Harry [Jul.1886-Apr.1887], Margaret (b:1886), Collis, Mary Ann [1889-1984], Florrie (b:1892), Emma (b:1894), Ralph [Apr.1896-Oct.1998], Ada Mathilda [Apr.1898-Oct.1988] & Arthur Henry.

Charles Baxter (1)

Charles Baxter (b:1859) was an Ag Labourer and married Drusilla (b:1861). By 1919 they were residing in Caldecott.

3 children - Collis [1880-3], Alfred (b:1885) & Dora G (b:1892).

Henry Baxter (2)

Henry Baxter (b:1860) was an Ag Labourer and married Emma (b:1863). They moved to Bedford.

John William "Smack" Baxter

John William "Smack" Baxter (1878-1957) was a shoe worker and married Florence Edith Annie See [15.June.1879-May.1922] on 8th September 1902.

In 1943 he is listed as living with his daughter Kitty May Barritt in Water Lane. He is believed to be the source of a character used by H.E.Bates CBE, a local author.

10 Children - Edith (1902-1976), Percy (1904-1978), Vera Maud (1905-1995), Herbert James (1907-1980), Dorothy (1909-1968), George (1911-1974), Leonard (1912-1979), Joyce (1914-1994), Kitty May (1915-1988) & William Owen (1919-2007).

Fred Baxter

Fred Baxter (b:1880) was a leather currier.

Charles Baxter (2)

Charles Baxter [1884-10.Jun.1947] was a shoe finisher and married Rose Annis [1885-25.Feb.1976] of Upper Dean, Beds in 1912.

Collis Baxter [12.Nov.1888-01.Mar.1968] married Emma [19.May.1892-09.Oct.1962] of Gt Brington in 1918.

Emma was in service for Mr William Hirst Simpson of Church House.

Collis served in the Queens (Royal West Surrey) Regt, followed by the Labour Corps in WW1.

Collis was a gravedigger— a 6ft single plot for 10s [50p].

On 8th March 1924 he was amongst the 50 or so villagers that turned out to assist when 4 thatched cottages caught fire in St George's Row .

In February 1942 Collis allowed the villagers to use the well pump in his garden, when the nearby parish well pump on the green near the bakery was out of order.

Antony "Tony" Luke Baxter [18.Oct.1921-2006] was an electrician & proprietor (A.L.Baxter & Sons) in Higham Ferrers, and married Joyce Elsie Bird [17.Oct.1924-Oct.1998]

4 children - Philip, Christopher, Rosalie Collette & Roderick.

Maynard Woolman Baxter

Maynard Woolman Baxter [19.May.1923-31.Jan.2009] was a butcher, lately of the Irthlingborough Co-op and married Alice Jeanette Ainsworth [06.Sep.1918-14.Sep.1990] in 1950.

Now lives in Chelveston.

Christopher Baxter was an electrician & proprietor (A.L.Baxter & Sons) in Higham Ferrers, working with his father Anthony and brother Phillip from 1968 - 2009.

Rosalie Collette

Rosalie Collette (b:1949) lives in Higham Ferrers.

Now retired, but worked for many years at John White's, Rushden.

Roderick Baxter

Roderick Baxter (b:1959) lives in Devon & London and works in Dulwich.
